I've been such a slack blogger in the last month or so. This is due to being super busy but mostly being lazy.

Anyway, a lot has happened in the last few weeks..

I started an internship with my local Federal Member of Parliament.

I got a new job and quit my old job that I'd been working at for almost 4 years!

Australia voted and the winner was Labor.

I actually got to meet Julia Gillard, our Prime Minister! I have nothing but positive words about her. She was very sweet, lovely and easy to talk to.

Anyway, enough talk about me and enough talk about politics- you are probably all asleep by now!

If you’re currently residing in Australia you’d know that the Federal Election is being held this Saturday 21^st August. It’s come down to the wire- Julia Gillard (ALP) vs Tony Abbott (LNP).

Please don’t waste your vote. People in other countries go to war over their right to vote. It’s something that we shouldn’t take for granted. It so depresses me when people say that they’re just going to tick any name or put in a blank ballot sheet (Mark Latham, I’m looking at you).

As the anti Abbott propaganda all over my blog may suggest, I will not be voting for the Coalition on Saturday and I urge you to do the same. I’m not saying that you have to vote for Labor/Julia Gillard, I’m just saying don't vote for Liberals/Tony Abbott.

Tony Abbott is living in the 1850's. He has no idea about anything and is currently acting like a 5 year old by refusing a debate on the economy. He's refusing this because he has NO economic plan for Australia.

Please watch this video, it only goes for 1 minute and will really open your eyes up to the backwards, racist, sexist and brainwashed culture that Abbott wants for this nation.

Please, please, please don't vote for Tony Abbott.

Lily Allen and partner Sam Cooper have confirmed that they'll soon be hearing the pitterpatter of tiny feet! Though, I'm sure there'll be copious amounts of screaming before the pitterpattering occurs.

The couple say that they are "absolutely delighted" and that Lily recently had her 3 month scan.

I'm willing to bet that her baby's first word is more than likely going to be 'fuck'.

I've just returned from overseas, not only with a delightful illness but with a selection of questions and queries floating around my mind. Questions and queries that concern the common traveller.

1. Why is it that as soon as the seatbelt light on the airplane is switched off after landing, everyone flings their seatbelts off and launches themselves out of their seats? They then stand in the aisle for at least 10 minutes before the doors are opened. I'm really thinking that there must be some sort of competition 'Let's see which psychotic can get in the aisle the quickest'. These lunatics just need to calm down.

2. Why do people insist on crowding around the baggage carousel like retarded seagulls? Sure, they might get their luggage before anyone else but if their bags aren't the first out (which 99% of the time they're not) they block the other 400 people from getting their bags. Is it really that difficult to stand back and then approach the carousel when your bags appear? Fuck.

3. Why, when in certain countries, do people feel the absolute need to bargain prices down? It happened while I was in China (and also when I've been to Bali and Fiji in the past), is it really necessary? Sure, sometimes you might find something really overpriced and in that instance bargaining is fine. I think it's ridiculous when people bargain prices down when they're probably saving $1.50. That $1.50 to us isn't any extreme amount of money but to the person who owns the market stall the money they just got ripped off is probably a lot to them.

If anyone has answers to these questions, please let me know x

Just thought I'd inform you all that I'm heading off to China tomorrow. I'm only gone for about 10 days but seeing as how the internet is ridiculously, ridiculously censored in China, I won't be able to read any of your wonderful blogs. I can't even get onto Facebook, Twitter or Hotmail- how will I survive?!

I swear, if any major political/social changes occur in Australia while I'm overseas- I am going to throw a bowl of rice at someone.

A few short weeks ago, Julia Gillard claimed "There's more chance of me becoming the full-forward for the Dogs (Western Bulldogs) than there is of any chance of a change in the Labor Party". Exactly 7 days after that statement, there'd been a leadership spill in the Labor Party and the next morning, Julia Gillard was Prime Minister.

Personally, I want to see some sort of celebrity football match for charity being organised. It'd be great to see Julia out there on the field, playing full-forward.

Damian Hale MP is slowly making all of our dreams come true by being the first stepping stone to Julia's prosperous career with the Western Bulldogs.

So the newspapers, radio, television and magazines have all made it very clear that our new Prime Minister Julia Gillard isn't married but is in a defacto relationship. We all know it. Do we care?

I certainly don't.

Bettina Ardnt has published an opinion piece this morning through Fairfax Media, in which she suggests that Gillard could be a bad influence on women because she's not married.

"It's fine for Gillard - a 48-year-old woman - to live with her bloke. Yet as a popular role model for women, her lifestyle choice may influence other women into making big mistakes about their lives."

"If Gillard chooses to play house with Tim Mathieson in the Lodge, this choice sends a strong message to the huge numbers of women who rightly admire her and seek to follow her example. A lifestyle suited to her particular needs may be riskier for many women and their children."

Sorry, I wasn't aware that we were still living in the 1950's.

“Women's tiny reproductive window means they pay a high price for wasting precious breeding time in such uncertain relationships.”

This is assuming that all women want to get married and have lots of babies. Ms Gillard has made it clear that she does not want children, so if she doesn’t then maybe there’s other people that don’t too! Imagine that.

“Politicians today rarely question social trends, even when all the evidence is they are having negative social consequences. John Howard was the rare exception, when he went into bat for a child's rights to a father in the debate over single mothers and IVF.”

Yes, but John Howard’s view was that if you don’t have a married mother and father with three perfect children born inside wedlock, then you deserve to be locked up and have the key thrown away. His views were prejudice and he appealed to the highest form of snobbery and ignorance installed in today’s society. Howard is one of the people that refuse to accept the fact that times are changing and shock horror, we don't live in a world where Jane Austen novels shape our lives.

In addition to this, we are talking about Julia Gillard, the Prime Minister that doesn’t believe in a ‘big Australia’. If she really is ‘influencing’ people in their choice to not get married and have children, as Ardnt claims, then it sounds Gillard could be on to something here.

It’s no secret that I really admire and have a lot of respect for Julia Gillard. I may or may not choose to get married and have children one day, but if I were to put this down to being influenced by Gillard’s situation, in no way would I believe this to be a ‘bad influence’. Bettina Arndt seems to be suggesting in a very non subtle way TIM MATHIESON, YOU MUST MARRY JULIA GILLARD AT THIS INSTANT BECAUSE IF YOU DON’T, THEN AUSTRALIA IS DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I have one moment in particular, I'm inspired by fashion all the time. Usually the most inspiring moments is when I see someone with a great outfit on that you can tell isn't contrived or put together with the purpose of being "fashionable".

I guess this is just in recent times when I've finally decided to dress for me and not for anyone else. I don't care if people hate what I wear. It's all about being comfortable in your own skin I think.

This is such a difficult question because I love 1920's flapper style fashion, I love the psychedelic trends of the 1960's, the grunge dorkiness of the 1990's but I'll think I'll have to narrow it down and pick the 1970's.. big collars, platform shoes and disco fever!

Hello lovelies!

I haven't done a blog post for agesss, well. It was last Tuesday but my posts have been far from regular, so I apologise :)

This What I Wore post is slightly different from your average street style arrangement.

My stepsister recently turned 21 and to celebrate she had a fancy dress costume party, the theme was movie characters. I've already been to parties dressed as Alice in Wonderland, Catwoman, Wanda from Where's Wally, Michael Jackson (no I'm not kidding) and many more. I decided to go to this party dressed as Minnie Mouse!

I didn't get many photos on the night, so these two will have to suffice.

"I'm a mouse, duh!"

Minnie Mouse dress - eBay: $17 + $15 postage.

Ears & Bow headband - eBay: $8. A headband did come with the dress but it was a crappy one and the bow was tiny so I bought a proper Disney one separately.

Shoes- $5: I wasn't even going to try and attempt to get yellow shoes and was going to settle for red, but found the yellow ones at Rubi Shoes.

Gloves - $3: They're just cotton cleaning gloves from the supermarket.

Apple's iPad goes on sale tomorrow in Australia and people are already queuing up to be the first to purchase it.

I have a strong belief that these people are losers.

I don't understand why people feel the absolute need to be the first to have something. Does it really matter if they go and get theirs on Saturday? I'm sure they'll be okay if they get it a day after the release.

Earlier on today, a friend suggested that this was exactly the same as lining up for concert tickets. I had to disagree. Concert tickets are for a one off event and if you don't get them straight away, you could miss out all together. The iPad will be around for awhile. People will have every opportunity in the world to purchase one.

Are people's lives really that boring and uneventful that they feel the need to stand around in the city on a freezing night, waiting to purchase a new gadget (which I personally believe is a stupid invention anyway)?

Do people do this to imply that they actually do something? In an 'Oh look at me, I queued up all night to get the iPad first' sort of way. What does this actually achieve for them? Popularity and social status? Maybe for 30 seconds.

They're surely not going to be remembered as being cool because they lined up to get an oversized iPhone that can't make telephone calls.

Seems a bit silly to me.

Edit: There have been news stories claiming that people lined up at the George St Apple store in Sydney, not knowing that a JB Hi-Fi store metres away was also selling the iPad... along with about 40 other stores in Sydney. Are these people stupid?! As if that wasn't obvious. iPad queue waiters are lame.

Reports last month revealed the Lego was made available to ABC staff to play with while they waited in the cafe queue at one of the broadcaster's Sydney offices.
The introduction of the Lego blocks was just one of numerous promotions around the country aimed at drawing ideas from staff to boost innovation at the ABC.
"I think the long-suffering taxpayer that funds the ABC might be interested to know what the cost was," Senator Abetz said.
"Plasticine might have been cheaper, I don't know, or finger painting."
Mr Scott was unable to say if the ABC had paid for the Lego or not, but he defended the initiative as a very important idea aimed at promoting innovation among ABC staff.
"We have innovation as part of the core values at the ABC," he said.
Senator Abetz said promoting a culture of innovation at the ABC was not in question.
"What is in question is the, if I might be polite and use the word bizarre, methodology, to provide building blocks, building Lego blocks, in the cafeteria for staff members to play with to enhance their creativity," he said.

What I Wore - Groovin the Moo edition.

I went to the Groovin' The Moo festival (yes, I thought the name was retarded too) last weekend. It featured the likes of Vampire Weekend, Silverchair, Tegan and Sara, Empire of the Sun and Lisa Mitchell. It was a great day but then by night time it got down to about 7 degrees celsius so that was not fun.

Seeing as how I've been meaning to do one of these for ages, it's obviously a really intelligent idea for me to do it when I have no more than two photos of my outfit and they are both terrible. Oh well. Here we go.

Trying to balance on tree roots.. ended up slipping over just after photo was taken.

I have absolutely no idea why I am standing in this pose of absolute retardation.. or why one of my legs is abnormally skinnier than the other.

Outfit rundown:

Shorts - Vintage Lee jeans that I cut, distressed and put studs into.

Floral overshirt - Vintage.

Black top - Supre or somewhere.

Boots - Vintage Doc Marten style from eBay.

Stockings - David Jones.

Accessories - A mixture of vintage ones and ones from places like Diva.

Catherine Deveny sacked after Logies tweets.

Since Twitter really took off in the last few years, the Logie awards in Australia have always been an amusing event to watch whilst reading tweets sent out by people who are there or even just people watching at home.

Last year, comedians Wil Anderson, Dom Knight, Julian Morrow and Dave Hughes landed themselves in hot water after tweeting several "offensive" statements about the show, Gretel Killeen who was hosting, and various award winners.

This year was no exception. Wil Anderson got slammed again by the media as did Catherine Deveny. Catherine is primarily known for being a columnist for The Age in Melbourne and definitely doesn't water down her comments.

Tonight it was announced that she was sacked from The Age following what she wrote on Twitter on Logies night.

I think this is ridiculous. Sure, what she said may not be everyone's cup of tea but the beauty of Twitter is the two magical words 'Follow' and 'Unfollow'. If people don't like it, they don't have to read it. Everything is a choice and everyone that has been offended by these comments, it's their own fault for reading past the first one. She published these comments on Twitter, not in her Age column. Why should she lose her job over this? Hardly seems fair.

I think Catherine is great. Freedom of speech is lacking and she is making up for it. The world is full of precious morons who go looking for things to be offended by.

I would say that 99% of people in the world are opposed to animal cruelty. Most of us would lend our support to a cause as great as this, but many of us aren't really sure how we can help out. I was fortunate enough to interview Elizabeth Anile, a co founder of ATAAC ("Australian Teens Against Animal Cruelty".. I know the majority of you readers aren't teenagers so for the purpose of this article, you can pretend it's "Australian Twentysomethings Against Animal Cruelty").

As a youngin' Elizabeth grew up having compassion and respect for all animals. It wasn't until she was 16 years old that she realised that "there was no difference between the lamb on my plate and my beautiful Labrador dog sitting at my feet." After realising this, it prompted Elizabeth to become a vegetarian and inspired her to do more to help and care for all animals.

After volunteering for a number of animal groups in Victoria, she realised that there wasn't one single youth group against animal cruelty run by youths. Elizabeth spoke out to other teenagers and discovered that many of them were too intimidated to ask for advice about vegetarianism or weren't 100% sure of how they can actively be involved with helping to eradicate "horrific issues such as whaling".

Elizabeth got together with buddy Andrew Glover and decided to combine everything they knew about animal rights and vegetarianism and created ATAAC. Elizabeth describes ATAAC as "an educational group that is dedicated to providing the youth of Australia with the facts of a range of animal issues; from factory farming to the dancing bears in India to the street dogs of Bulgaria."

"ATAAC believes that education is the key to prevention" Elizabeth says, "We research and gather information and project it to our readers so that they in turn can make an informed and educated decision."

Elizabeth and Andrew have had many people contact them saying that they weren't aware of the treatment of farm animals and once being educated on these subjects they've made the decision to ditch the meat and go vego.

You too can help end the horrid treatment of so many animals today. Even if you feel like you're not doing much, every little bit counts!

Here's a few quick tips from Elizabeth:

1) Become a vegetarian. The average vegetarian saves the lives of 95 animals per year. By making the decision of cutting meat out of your diet, you are responsible for saving the lives of so many animals that otherwise would be subjected to mistreatment in factory farms and slaughter houses.

2) Get involved! Contact an animal organisation that you are most interested in and start volunteering your time. There are so many amazing organisations out there that need all the support they can get.

3) Donate money. ATAAC donates money to many charities and organisations all over the world. ATAAC's fundraising efforts alone have helped street dogs and cats in India, Egypt, Bulgaria and Spain from abuse and mistreatment and assisted with vaccination and desexing campaigns. Where's the weirdest (and most inappropriate) place that you've been asked out?

A funeral? A tupperware party? Or just while you're filling your car up with petrol?

For me, it was the good old Westfield food court. By a guy I had never met or spoken to before.

I still had 20 minutes before I started work so naturally I sat down with a mango frappe and the latest Frankie magazine to kill time. So there I am, reading a very cute article on vintage teapots when a completely random guy approaches me and says "Can I sit here?" gesturing towards the seat opposite me. "Uh, sure" I reply, glancing around at the HUNDREDS of empty tables surrounding us.

Looking back now, I don't think I've tried to think of more excuses to get out of something in my life. Before I can blurt out one of these badly thought through excuses, he starts questioning me. "Hi, my name is Simon*, what's your name?" I quickly think of the possibilities.. 'Is this guy a psycho that will track me down and kill me, or is he a stalker who already knows my name so he'll know if I'm lying to him?!'. I go with the stalker. "Umm, I'm Alex."

He then proceeds to ask me the ever lame and stereotypical pick up line "So, do you come here often?". Might I remind you that we are in a WESTFIELD FOOD COURT. This is not a club or bar. This is an effing shopping centre. "Sometimes" I reply, hoping that this guy will go away. But no, he still persists. "Oh yeah, so do you go out much?", "Oh, not really", I reply, thinking I was awesome for dodging any questions about where I go out. Nope. "So when you do go out, where do you go?" Fuuck my life. "Um, just usually to places in Sydney. No where around here." He nods in a knowing way. "Soo.. do you go to the cinema much?" Is this guy kidding?! I'm really starting to freak out by this stage, praying that someone I know will walk past and save me but it doesn't happen. "No, I don't."

I'm starting to sound rude and horrid but it was a creepy situation. "Oh, well, do you want to catch up and go to the cinema one night? I can pick you up and take you home and stuff." Alarm bells go off inside my head (though I was rather proud that I managed to remain cool, calm and collected on the outside) and I replied in a rather swift manner as I was standing up and leaving "Oh thanks, that's really nice of you but I'm actually seeing someone at the moment and anyway oh gosh would you just look at the time I have to go to work" "Oh, where do you work?" STALKER STALKER STALKER! "Um, just upstairs...okaygoodbye!"

I didn't go anywhere near the food court for about 3 months.

Tell me about your creepy scenarios! Or am I the only one that attracts weirdo's like this?

Racist, xenophobe, right wing zealot and all round bad dancer Pauline Hanson has declared that she is selling her house before she moves to Britain. Only one condition. She won't have it sold to a Muslim.

I'm not even going to do a full blog on her because she doesn't deserve anyone's time or attention, but I will say this... How about we all (plus about 200,000 other people) chuck in $15 each so we can buy her house and have it converted into an Islamic temple of worship, i.e. a mosque.

Sounds like a plan to me.

Anzac Day.

I have a problem with it.

Not the actual day, or the reasoning behind the day, but the way it's presented and treated by society. I'm only going to focus on one area to cut down the abuse I'll probably receive for this blog post, so let's talk about the public holiday/retail trading hours side of it.

If you live in Australia, there's a strong possibility that you heard the media reports about retailer K-Mart wanting to open their doors with regular trading hours on Anzac Day. Everyone was up in arms about this, saying that it showed disrespect for the diggers who lost their lives for our freedom. I agree with this to a point. I don't really think it's necessary that K-Mart is opened at 9am on Anzac Day. It's no loss to society. I mean really, are people sitting around at home going "Shit, I really need to get that tupperware container and those grey trackpants today! I need them NOW!" ? I don't think so.

Now the example I'm about to give may vary depending on which state or territory you live in, but I'm going with NSW. Stores opened at 1pm today and closed at 5pm. I think that's more disrespectful than opening all day. We'll only close for the morning because people just have that much of a sad life that they can't go a full day without going and hanging around at a shopping centre, making impulse purchases. But it's okay, we'll open at 1pm because we showed our respect in the morning.

Now I'm not saying that places like Coles & Woolworths should be shut all day, because yes, sometimes we do have emergencies and need to get a few necessities. But it's not really a big deal if we can't spend the day shopping at Westfield. I'm sure we'll all be okay.

The fact that Christmas & Easter are so prominent in today's society and culturere sort of annoys me. Only 64% of Australian's identify themselves as being part of the Christian faith whilst only 9% of people go to church every Sunday. And then everyone spends Good Friday "remembering" the events that may or may not have taken place i.e. Jesus' crucifixion. Then on the Sunday everyone goes ballistic with chocolate eggs because Jesus "rose from the dead". Then in December we spend Christmas Day "celebrating" Jesus' birth. We don't even have actual scientific proof that this guy was anything other than a regular person. I'm not saying that he wasn't the son of God, nor am I saying that he was. All I'm saying is, we spend a lot of time celebrating the holiday's that don't have true meaning to a vast majority of us.

Anzac Day is a day of commemorating the Anzac's who fought and those who fell in Gallipoli in World War 1. Over 60,000 Anzac's were killed at war, either in action or from wounds and/or diseases they attained whilst fighting.

We know for a fact that over 60 000 people were killed at war between 1914-1921.

So let's only take half a day off for these SIXTY THOUSAND PEOPLE who were killed, not that long ago, but let's have 5 days (Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Christmas Day) throughout the rest of the year for Jesus. A person that many of us don't even believe in, or have any faith or religion at all for that matter.

Is it just me being a wowser or is society just one massive hypocrite?

I know it's been blogged about a million times over but I don't give a shit so I'm going to have a massive rant about Susan Boyle.

I really like her. I think her story is pretty amazing. I love the fact that after all this press, global attention and a multi million dollar album, she still catches the bus around town.

If you are one of the few people who have not seen her first audition on Britain's Got Talent, watch it now. It still gives me goosebumps. It's just amazing.

It really annoys me when critics and reporters have a go at her for being "mentally unstable". Or when they punch out their horrible gossip columns because she threw a chair or something when she didn't win Britain's Got Talent.

Everyone who says she's a psycho needs to think about her situation.

She's this almost 50 spinster who lives in a tiny village. She didn't have a huge amount of human interaction in her life besides going to church and down to the corner store. She was hyped up to win the television show. Launched into fame. Thrown into the spotlight. Of course anyone who has been talked up that much and has the whole world believing that they're going to win something is probably going to go a bit loopy when they don't actually win. Not only do they lose, but they lose to a bunch of kids who dance. That would hit hard.

She's not used to fame and it will probably take some getting used to. She might not even totally adjust and continue to have 'diva' outbursts for the rest of her life.

And anyway, look at Kevin Rudd. He's been in the public eye for awhile and he still throws tantrums when he doesn't have a hairdryer.

I think that Westfield's/other shopping malls should start implementing dress standard rules like RSL clubs and other venues. For example: 'No side fringes, Spongebob backpacks or coloured hair extensions after 4pm' might be a good one to enforce.'

KARL Stefanovic has revealed he is under strict instructions not to repeat his on-air drunken antics after next month's Logies. The Today host was the talk of TV land last year when he sat down to host Today next to Lisa Wilkinson clearly the worse for wear from the awards night before.
He famously fronted up at 5.30am on little sleep and lots of vodka as the show went out live from the lobby of Melbourne's Crown Casino.
In a bid to avoid a repeat of his wild night out, Nine boss David Gyngell has insisted Stefanovic work as a red carpet reporter on the Logie night, keeping him away from all the free-flowing champagne.
"David Gyngell has put me on the red carpet with Leila McKinnon and Lisa this year so they'll be keeping an eye on me and my plan is to be in bed by a reasonable hour."

Ohh, I'm so disappointed about this decision! Karl was HILARIOUS last year when he was drunk on air. It was the best thing that's happened on the Today show to date. It was even funnier when Channel Nine attempted to use the excuse that he was really overtired and not drunk.

I have too many clothes.

Over the past two weeks, I've been continually reminding myself to clean out my wardrobe and chest of drawers as they are, quite literally, overflowing.

By 'clean out' I mean 'squash everything in tighter so I don't have to throw anything away'.

After a excellent post by Miss Peregrin and an equally fabulous one by Corrine/Frock & Roll I was inspired to catalogue the contents of my wardrobe and post the results on here.

I knew I had too many clothes but these results just freaked me out. I don't even want to know how much money I've spent on everything.

~ 40 tshirts/overshirt things.

~ 17 jackets/blazers.

~ 7 cardigans.

~ 8 pairs of leggings (black, floral and navy blue)

~ 21 skirts.

~ 9 pairs of shorts.

~ 2 pairs of jeans (I never wear them either!)

~ 7 vests.

~ 1 pair of non denim pants.

~ 72 dresses.

~ 12 hats/berets.

~ 38 pairs of shoes.

~ 16 bags

I didn't even attempt to count my belts and headscarves.. there'd be over 100 of them.

This little exercise has shown that I either need to throw out a million things or stop buying new ones.... as if that's going to happen!

It's that time of year again, *drumroll*, for the TV Week Logie Awards.

If you're not from Australia, there's probably a 99.9% chance of you not having any idea of what the Logies are. Basically they are a sort of lame version of the Daytime Emmy awards. I have a few complaints here.

1. Why is Paul McDermott nominated for gold? All he does is read off an autocue. I've also heard from a reliable source that he doesn't write any of his own jokes on Good News Week either. I will admit though that I have a personal distaste for McDermott. I'll never forgive him for telling me that I looked like a hippie who'd just flown in from Nimbin.

2. What happened to the awards (Most Outstanding/Most Popular) for comedy? They have vanished!

Earth Hour: 8.30pm – 9.30pm

Saturday, 27^th March 2010.

The time of year has rolled around again for Earth Hour.

Basically Earth Hour involves turning all your lights off for one hour in an attempt to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to create awareness of climate change.

The theme for this year is “Earth Hour, Every Hour” meaning we should all take steps to look after the environment ALL the time. Not just once a year for an hour.

Here’s some tips and suggestions on how you can reduce your carbon footprint!

* Switch the lights off (and any other electrical appliances you have running- such as fans, radios, televisions etc) as you leave a room. I’m sure your imaginary friends watching the tv’s in an otherwise empty room won’t mind.

* Turn the tap off while you’re brushing your teeth (or whilst shaving- for all male readers!)

* Have shorter showers. I know how amazing it is standing there under the steaming water whilst staring at nothing, but seriously. Maybe we should limit these long and pointless showers down to one a month. Or one a week, depending on how addicted you are.

* Walk, ride a bike or take public transport instead of driving when you’re able to. It’s more cost effective and walking/riding a bike is good for you as well as the environment!

* Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!

* Remind all your friends, neighbours and family about Earth Hour and how they can reduce their carbon footprint. Every little bit counts.

* Click ‘Attending’ on the Facebook Earth Hour event (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=10150094514395092) and invite all your friends.

Even if you’re a climate change sceptic who should just shut the eff up, you might as well participate in this because you’ll save $$$$ on your electricity bill!

Apparent UFO sighting in Sydney

Fiona Harrigan of Sydney is convinced that what she captured in these photographs is a UFO.

"As I was about to take the picture this black object appeared and then it started to move," she said. "It started off about 800m away but it came closer- to about 400m- and then two other little round things appeared from this bright orange light above."

"There was no noise. It was calm and peaceful but it was very weird."

The main UFO is said to have shot off above Governor Macquarie Drive at Chipping Norton, with the smaller UFOs flying away in the opposite direction.

Surely if there indeed was a UFO in the sky, other people would have also witnessed this. Sydney's a busy city. It'd truly be unbelievable if not one other person came forward and said that they too also saw the UFO.

This is probably just Balloon Boy and his family up to their tricks again.

Who believes in UFO's? Who's a sceptic?

I heart Fiona O'Loughlin

Well the media seems to have moved from Lara Bingle & Michael Clarke to the latest "drama"- comedian Fiona O'Loughlin calling Bindi Irwin 'creepy' and 'a freakshow' on television program 'Spicks and Specks'.

This is just another thing that the media needs to calm down about. Sure, Bindi is a child, but for goodness sake, if they didn't want her to get upset well then maybe they shouldn't have splashed it all over every headline. If the media didn't make a big deal out of it, the Irwin's probably would never have found out about it.

Bindi is in the public eye. She is going to cop criticism every single day of her life.

What Fiona said wasn't that bad, and I think she was pretty spot on with her impersonation. Bindi Irwin is a bizarre sort of child.

Bindi does carry on in such a manner that is way too over the top and this isn't her fault, but it's how she's been modelled for a life on television and in the public eye. What do her management and family expect? Of course people are going to point this out and make a joke out of it.

Also, this was aired on Wednesday night and the media only caught wind of it today, on Friday? It must be a slow news day.

And to all the media outlets that keep bringing up and comparing this The Eulogy Song that was performed on The Chaser's War on Everything in 2007- That was THREE years ago and it was awesome so shut up.

We all know from using common sense that any show that Lady Gaga performs isn't going to be sweet and lovely with rainbows and butterflies. So why was a parent compelled to take her 9 year old daughter to a Lady Gaga show? The shows of which are reported to be comprised of sex, blood and eating disorders.

When Linda Fitzsimmons took her daughter Jessica to the opening show on Wednesday, she said that she was "shocked and suprised" by it. "I couldn't believe it. Jessica likes her songs and I'm okay with her listening to them. There's no swearing in them and she's too young to understand the hidden meaning", she said. "But if I tried to take her to an MA 15+ movie, someone would stop me at the counter. Why not with concerts?"

The promoter of the Lady Gaga concerts in Australia, Michael Coppel said that it's nearly impossible to put a classification on a concert and the responsibility lies with the parent. "It's hard to rate a show. What someone might see as risque differs from person to person," he said.

I disagree and agree with him. If you can classify a movie, why can't you classify a concert? Michael Coppel also said that he doubts if Australian concerts will ever carry a classification because most promoters don't see the show before they book it. Surely though, the classification can be added before tickets go on sale? Even if the promoter hasn't seen the full concert, surely they can get video recording of rehearsals and a run down on what elements the show is going to involve? It can't be that difficult, surely. I think classifying concerts is probably a good idea in the long run. CD's are classified if there's swearing so if the songs on the CD are going to be in the concert, there's a minimum classification right there.

I do agree with him however, that it is the parents responsibility. Obviously Linda Fitzsimmons has been living under a rock for the past year or so. If she realised that Lady Gaga's songs had hidden meanings, perhaps it would have been wise to do a quick google or YouTube search to get a bit of background on her?

Quite simply, if you turned up to a concert that you'd paid a few hundred dollars for tickets and they said "You can go inside, but your daughter has to stay out here", you'd be making a very different story to the Daily Telegraph and possibly every other news outlet.

I'm not even going to get into the politics of the Lara Bingle-Nude Photo-Brendan Fevola-Woman's Day-Michael Clarke-Engagement-Breakup-Stolen Car- story because it's been going on for too long and it would take about 4 years to go through it all.

What I will say though, is that the media need to LET IT GO.

Leave Lara Bingle and Michael Clarke alone.
Leave their families alone.

This is getting to the point of being absolutely ridiculous. The Australian media disgusts me right now. Lara Bingle's mother was outside Lara's apartment building, reduced to tears because reporters and camera crews were hounding her and she couldn't get inside. This was happening about 2 weeks after the story first broke out. Why do reporters even bother? They were asking her questions like "Is the relationship off for good?" What, do they think her mother is going to turn around and say "Yes, yes it is. Lara and Michael have decided to break up indefinitely. Would you like to come inside actually and have a coffee with Lara and I so we can tell you more information that doesn't concern you or the rest of the country?"

I don't even care what Lara Bingle has done, sure, I don't agree with her selling her story to Woman's Day magazine and there's probably a few other things she could have done differently. This doesn't change the fact that a human being (one of which whom has not committed any heinous crime) should NEVER have their privacy invaded like this. This constant bombardment and harassment has got to stop. It's sickening.

Ultimately, I would blame the media for being the majority of the reason that Bingle & Clarke's engagement broke up. It's horrible and I think it's time that we all got on with our lives so they can do the same.

Oh and by the way. Can we all just stop freaking out about the current location of Lara's $200,000 engagement ring?!

Lady Gaga is such an effing kook.

It's a shame that she chooses to act like a complete maniacal tool and writes stupid songs because she actually has a decent voice.

Gaga took part in a Hello Kitty themed photo shoot recently, here's some whacked out photos. This woman (or man, depending on what you believe) has some crazy ideas.

In saying these criticisms, and even though I obviously think she's an inane piece of garbage, she does have a lot of courage to put herself out there and be an individual. In this day and age, that's got to be a good thing, right?

I have to tell you 7 things about myself so here we goooooo.

1. I think it's disgusting that there is a Mt Franklin bottled water showbag at the Easter Show this year. Sorry but if I wanted water, I'd just go to my tap.

2. I really think that the scents of methylated spirits, petrol, cleaning products and mineral turpentine are nice. Not in a fragrance wearing way, but in a "mmm are you filling up your car" kind of way.

3. As you've probably noticed by a trend in my blog posts, I think the magazine industry is rapidly going downhill. Yet I still aspire to have a career in this field. I can't work out if it's a good or bad thing that magazines/general print media will be dead very soon.

4. I really think everyone just needs to CALM DOWN about the film 'Avatar'. It really can't be that good.

5. The novelty of having an iPhone wears off after about 3 minutes.

6. I recently saw a woman in an airport lounge with a giant sticker across her laptop proclaiming "Follow me on Twitter!!! [insert username here]". I am deeply embarassed and sad for the lame and desperate life this woman must lead. Talk about going to extreme lengths to gain popularity.

7. At time of going to print- I have approximately 68 dresses in ownership. Is this one (or 40) too many?

Your first day. Whether it be at work, university or school, it can be one of the most terrifying experiences for some people.

I had my first day at university this week. Though I'm fortunate enough to not get nervous with things like starting at a new job or public speaking, the night before I was extremely edgy about the whole thing. Because this never happens to me, I began to question why I was nervous and really, what there was to be afraid of. It's a university, not a maze with crazed gunman and axe-wielding maniacs that you have to escape from.

I found my answer in my lecture for International Politics. The lecturer asked us to talk to people around us and answer the questions he suggested. One of them was "Why are you nervous about beginning university?" In my little group, I was the first person to be asked the question and literally the single thing that popped into my head and I blurted out before I could think rationally about it was "Because I don't want to look like a dumb shit." Everyone laughed and a few others confessed that they were also silently freaking out that they wouldn't be able to complete the simplest of tasks because "it's university" and therefore you're "competing with the best".

To me, my "fear" of being a complete dullard is slightly bizarre. I don't have a problem public speaking, making friends or standing up for myself or others but I'm silently urging myself to be intelligent and not to screw it up. When I say 'intelligent', I don't mean in an "I know everything therefore I am the best" sort of competitive way, I mean 'intelligent' as in being able to write a decent and comprehensible piece of writing and have a thorough understanding of what's being discussed in lectures and tutorials.

We all want to excel in our chosen paths, but how much do we let this weigh into our psyche? Should we all (me) just take a chill pill and calm the eff down?

Does anyone else share the same "I don't want to be mentally challenged kthnxbai" woes that I do, or am I truly an example of natural selection? Tell me about your experiences at a new job, school or university. x

Chinese woman going under the knife to look like Jessica Alba

A Chinese woman is undergoing extensive plastic surgery to resemble the Hollywood star Jessica Alba.

The 21 year old, known only as Xiaoqing says that she's doing this to win back her boyfriend whom she broke up with, because of his obsession with Alba. Now she wants him back.

"When I broke up with my boyfriend, I was very sad," Xiaoqing said, "My friends...kept consoling me but it did not work, so they suggested I do plastic surgery to look like her [Alba]"

Jiang Shan, a representative from Shanghai Time Plastic Surgery Hospital said that he has spoken to Xiaoqing and advised her to think seriously about what she is doing.

"If she wants to look much better than she does now, for example, if she wants her skin to look smoother and her overall facial facade to look more beautiful, I think we are able to help fulfil her wishes," Jiang said.

"But if she wants to totally look like Jessica Alba, I would think she is still not confident of herself and that she needs to solve this problem psychologically."

Speaking about her ex boyfriend, Xiaoging said, "I have never been able to let him go. If in the end he still does not accept me after I undergo the plastic surgeries. I will give up. I will then choose to let go, start afresh and live life by myself."

Xiaoqing told reporters that she would also speak to her mother while visiting home during the annual new year holiday before she makes her final decision.

"I'm not only doing it for my ex-boyfriend but more myself," she said. "I am a psychologically weak person. I want to do something to challenge myself and build a strong personality through it."

It has also been revealed that doctors at the Shanghai Time Plastic Surgery Hospital have made the offer to do the transformation for free in order to showcase their skills with the surgical knife.

I'm not really quite sure what my opinion of this is. I agree that it's we have the right to do whatever we want to our body, as it belongs to us, but this seems to take that to a whole new level. She can't be *that* desperate for a good doppelganger to put on Facebook, can she?!

Also, the fact that she is getting this procedure for free, I think, is a bad idea. Her having the knowledge that she will be saving thousands of dollars is more than likely just encouraging her to go ahead with it when she may regret it in the future.

At the end of the day though, if these are the lengths someone has to go to in order to get a boyfriend back, I don't think he's really worth having! If he wants a girlfriend that looks like Jessica Alba, he might as well go and buy a blow up doll and stick a photo of Jessica on it's head.

Macquarie Bank employee so, so busted.

An employee at Macquarie Bank would be absolutely dying inside today after he was caught out on LIVE TELEVISION looking at near naked photographs of model Miranda Kerr. He was seen in the background of a live cross to Channel 7 news anchor Chris Bath.

His colleague Martin Lakos who was speaking to Bath, was totally oblivious to what was happening behind him. A representative from Channel 7 has confirmed that they have received phone calls from upset viewers but have passed matters on to Macquarie Bank.

"On behalf of our viewers we have expressed our concern to Macquarie. They have assured us they are taking the appropriate action," he said.

Macquarie released a statement saying it "takes matters such as the unacceptable use of technology extremely seriously. Macquarie has strict policies in place surrounding the use of technology and the issue arising from today's live cross on Seven News is being dealt with internally."

Australia Day sucks.

Well I seem to be having a good week for opposing different aspects of various holidays.

My latest whinge topic is Australia Day.

There is so many things wrong with this day, I don't even know where to begin.

January 26th 1778. The day that hundreds of European settlers arrived in Botany Bay on the First Fleet. This was also the day that many, many Aboriginal people lost their lives by being murdered, simply for existing. Our ancestors marched right into someone else's home and killed these people for absolutely no good reason.

A large majority of the Aboriginal or Indigenous community of Australia refer to Australia Day as 'Invasion Day' and I think that's pretty spot on. It's disgusting the way these innocent people were treated by the Europeans. We shouldn't be celebrating our country on this date. It's like celebrating the fact that our ancestors came in and killed for no reason.

The way people celebrate it also gives me something to complain about.

Australia Day celebrations have turned into a VB drinking/meat eating/flag wearing/other race hating competition. Being Australian shouldn't be about how many beers you can skull, or if you wear thongs or watch the Cricket. Being Australian should be about being thankful that we live in a pretty peaceful environment, that we have a good health and schooling system (these don't even exist in some countries), that we have social security and that we don't have bombs dropped on our heads each week.

Unfortunately, Australia has quite a number of bogans. The sad thing is that the individuals which engage in such seedy behaviour are proud of it. How is this something to be proud of? Wearing tshirts bearing the slogan "We grew here, you flew here" or one with "F*ck off, we're full" inside the outline of Australia is apparently considered 'cool'? People need to learn respect, humility and appreciation for how lucky they have it and how worse off they could be.

Back to Australia Day being on such an inappropriate date, it's such a tough debate as to which date it should be shifted to.

January 1st is an option as it's the anniversary of when all the states federated to become one nation in 1901. People argue that this shouldn't happen because January 1st is already New Years Day and a public holiday in itself.

Anzac Day (25th April) has also been suggested but many don't believe it's a good idea as this day belongs solely to the ANZAC's who fought so hard for our country.

I like the idea of having Australia Day on 13th February. The anniversary of the date when Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made the formal apology to the Stolen Generation of Aboriginals. It was such a day of cultural awareness and reconciliation and it felt like everyone in this country was on the same level. The Government will never change the date to this though because unfortunately there is such a huge population of individuals who were totally against the formal apology.

I understand that Australia Day has forever been known to fall on January 26th and we're all used to it, but surely we can compromise a bit and try and empathise with the Aboriginal community because of what happened on that date all those years ago.

Also, on a side note- how do people get away with wearing flags as capes or how do companies even get away with making thongs, bikini's, shorts etc with the Australian flag on it? It's considered an offence to have the Australian flag touch the ground when being pulled down from a flagpole. This isn't even logical if people are allowed to wear the flag as a bikini.

My 'Big Day Out' .... at Concord Hospital.

A couple of you might remember my excitement for the 2010 Big Day Out.

I only have one word to describe what should have been a fun, free spirited, musically enriching event: disaster.

I won't go into hectic detailing here but to cut a long story short, I fainted within 45 MINUTES OF ARRIVING. I didn't get to see any bands, definitely not Lily Allen, but spent most of the day in hospital recieving stitches on my skull. (You really don't want to know what sort of a state my cream crocheted vest was in)

Just to clarify- I wasn't under the influence of alcohol and certainly not drugs. The doctor who treated me diagnosed it as a faint from the heat. It was around 45 degrees celsius (around 113 degrees fahrenheit) that day and I wasn't the only one who suffered heat exhaustion.

This article says that 180 people had been treated for dehydration but just six of us lucky ones were taken to hospital.

All in all though it was an amazing day, judging by the average Facebook status update. I also heard that Lily Allen absolutely went off.

On a serious note though, if you're planning to go to any festivals this Summer; make sure you keep your fluids up. I drank a whole bottle of water in the 1/2 hour leading up to my collapse, obviously that wasn't enough. Have a good breakfast, drink lots of fluids and wear a hat.

Take it from someone who has stitches in the back of their head :P

Easter is early.

So, we're just a few weeks into January and the supermarket shelves are already spilling with Easter Eggs.

Easter is not until April.

Talk about a complete commercialisation of what is supposed to be a religious holiday. I'm sure that every year, the release date of Easter merchandise is brought forward one week earlier each time.

I am confident that the majority of children (not brought up in a Catholic environment) wouldn't be able to tell you what Easter is all about. For that matter, there's probably a fair few adults who are in the same situation.

I'm not the most religious person myself, but I know the story of Easter and Christmas. And I think that these apparent "religious holidays" have now become a commercialised abomination.

Give it say, until August, and the supermarkets will already be selling bonbons and tinsel. I'm all for being organised, but isn't this taking it a little bit far?

Back to Easter- perhaps I'm expecting too much from the children of today, but is it not a little bit obvious to kids (I don't mean 2 year olds. I mean 6+ year olds) when every aisle end has Easter eggs, Easter bunnies, Easter hens, Easter ducks and every other animal in chocolate form displayed, and then the "Easter Bunny" comes months later and delivers chocolate eggs to their house, hiding them in a variety of locations?

Surely it's just a little bit obvious?

Or is the average child just getting dumber and confectionary companies reaping the benefits?

AN enormous television screen showing a prnographic film caused a midnight traffic jam in central Moscow on Thursday as stunned motorists slammed on the brakes to gawk at the writhing naked bodies.

The owner of the advertising screen, which sits atop a main road about 2km south of the Kremlin, told the state-run RIA news agency that hackers had broken into the screen's computer system and turned on the prn.

"They were either acting out of hooliganism or were from a rival company," Viktor Laptev, commercial director of advertising firm Panno.ru, told RIA.

It's a universally known fact that Fox News shows extreme bias towards right wing politics. They're not exactly subtle about their conservative views. It's not even an exaggeration to say that Fox News is almost comic in political reporting style.

I'm sure Sarah Palin will just add to this surge of political bias.

If you're not familiar with the crap that Palin goes on about normally, here's a few quotes for entertainment purposes:

Ruby posted on her Facebook: "Woof Woof Rose is engaged to Meow Meow McNeil".

Jennifer Hawkins is posing nude and unphotoshopped on the cover of this month's Marie Claire magazine.

There is a lot of debate about this magazine cover, whether or not it promotes positive body image, the "normality" of cellulite and wrinkeles or if it's sending out the right message.

My opinion on this is, if you want to promote the whole idea that nobody's perfect- then you don't use a SUPERMODEL for this.
I'm the first to point out that supermodel's aren't perfect at all, but unfortunately in this day and age, supermodels don't really carry much weight on them.

I'm not at all saying to put a normal, everyday person on the cover of Marie Claire because that wouldn't generate sales and therefore not be the best idea for promoting positive body image. What I would like to see done, is that a celebrity or public figure is put on the cover. A celebrity or public figure who is not a model. Therefore, sales are still generated because the average reader recognises the celebrity. As the covergirl isn't a model, readers can more easily resonate with their body figure than what they could with a model.

All in all, it seems like a massive garner for publicity and an aim to have a big step up from what Sarah Murdoch did.

2009 - a year in review.

Barack Obama was inaugurated as the first African American President of the USA.

Michael Jackson died. Everyone cried like we lost the guy who found the cure for cancer, before he could tell us the cure.

Everyone went ballistic about Swine Flu and look- all/most of us are still alive.

The world found out nasty details about what goes on behind the scenes in Tiger Wood's life.

The Chaser showed how many easily offended people there are with the "Make a Realistic Wish Foundation" sketch. (Just for the record- I thought it was great.)

Seedy Kyle Sandilands caused controversy by quizzing a 14 year old girl about her sex life, making him universally hated.

Obviously there are many more important things that also happened in the last year of the noughties, but unfortunately my tiny brain can't think that far back. Please add your memories of 2009 and I'll add them to the list :)

2009 has had ups and downs and tips and turns.

Because I'm bored/in a relationship with myself, I thought I'd share with you all the (un)interesting things that happened to me in the 09'.

I finished a short course in media, meeting some amazing people; friends that I'll still be laughing with when we're 75.

Auditioned to be a presenter on the new children's television network ABC3 and failed. I thought it'd be a good idea to make my audition 'different' and 'not what people would think to do'.....all the presenters chosen had really typical video auditions. Last time I try to be clever, ever again!

Began 'shut up, vita', consequently polluting more online space with my biased opinions, whinging about politics, laughter at innocent bystanders and most importantly, my mindless bullshit.

Gained entry into university next year, studying Communications/Broadcast Journalism.

Did an internship at a magazine for teenage girls. I won't name the publication but I will say that yes, they do recycle stories. Regularly.

Was part of a sketch filmed for one of my favourite television shows. Most likely in the top 5 fun days I have had this year.

I wrote a wanky, self indulgent blog post about myself.

first of all, i'll apologise for being such a slack blogger! not posting on here or commenting all your wonderful blogs for over a week.

everything has been so hectic recently. i'm currently moving house and it just so happens to be the Christmas season so obviously choosing this time of year to pack up our lives was the most logical choice we've made.

hopefully the tabloids will provide me with good blogging material in these coming weeks so I have more stuff to have a whinge about.

Mia Freedman's blog MamaMia has alerted me to the fact that CHILDREN and BABIES are now being photoshopped.
Seriously, what is wrong with the human race when they believe that little kids need to be retouched?

WTF.

I think the really horrid part of this story is that the girls' parents have obviously agreed to this, or even in some cases, requested these major changes. If so, what is life going to be like for these young girls when they get older? Kids, girls especially have enough problems accepting themselves without their parents having their photos altered. If they're going to do that, they might as well go and book the toddlers in for plastic surgery.

I'm going to see the legendary Fleetwood Mac in concert this Tuesday!
Even though all the band members will probably be using walking frames and taking nap breaks every 10 minutes, I am very excited. It should be a good show.

I am actually quite disappointed that Christine McVie will not be touring with the band as she left sometime during 1998. She was a pretty good vocalist. I like her. All other original band members (Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie) will be there thankfully.

I'll be sure to have some photos from the concert, but until then here are some photos from the vintage days of Fleetwood Mac.

Samantha Sandilands, 20, who is due to give birth in eight days, stared in horror as her car slowly disappeared under a torrent of rubble.

``The first thing I thought was `I hope I don't go into labour','' she said. ` ``But as long as I could get across the road, I knew I could get to the police car parked up the road and get to the hospital.

``I was really stressed and told the police I might go into labour, so they hung around and offered me a lift to the hospital if needed.

``I thought my water might have broken.''

She described it as ``a waterfall coming down the road''.

``It was similar to Bells Rapids (on the Swan River at Brigadoon),'' she said. ``We went to bed and it was still flowing.''

Her partner, Matt Young, 21, said he was woken by a policeman knocking on his door about 1am.

``I didn't know what was going on,'' he said. ``I came out and there was a wall of water down the road.

``I managed to wade out to the car and managed to save the baby seat out of it, that's about all we got.

Look, she has eye wrinkles and she's actually recognisable this time!

The Weekly must be trying to make up for all the disastrous photoshopping catastrophes in the world because they featured Sarah Murdoch on the cover of last months issue- "all natural".

My lovely friend Emma is currently overseas in Italy working as an Au Pair.
(For those who don't know, an Au Pair is basically like being a Nanny and looking after the children of a family)

The little girl that she looks after is called Sveva and she said this to Emma recently: "I love you Emma. Can I hold please your hand? Your hand is very important in my world little and big, Emma. Big because you are 10years more big of me, but you are little of age"

I think this article from The Daily Telegraph, probably sheds a bit too much information than what we'd like to hear...

A WOMAN with a medical condition that gives her 300 orgasms a day has found a man of her dreams after she wore out a string of boyfriends.

Michelle Thompson, who suffers from Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome, thought she was just too demanding for men and would never find the man of her dreams.

Am I the only person that's thinking, okay cool- that's great for you and your private life but there's no need for it to be published in a tabloid.

The main thing that puzzles me about this article is how the "news story" came to the attention of the reporter. I mean, Michelle isn't a celebrity or public figure and there's been no medical miracle story in this at all. It's simply about some random woman who is finally content with her bedroom life.

Must have been a very slow news day.

(If she has 300 per day, this is approximately 12.5 per hour. And just as she thought she was finally drifting off to sleep...!)

Twilight. You either love it or you hate it with a passion.

I hate it. I just don't see what the appeal in it is.

I got given the first Twilight book for Christmas from my father (who was unaware of the psychotic vampire wannabe teen cult that's taking place). I figured that since it was a gift, I should probably try and read it and then maybe form a proper reason to hate it.

So I read about 18 pages of it. 18 pages too long to know that it was absolute crap. But it's not really the poor writing or dialogue that I hate.

I hate the teenage kids that now *think* that they are vampires. The way some of these kids behave, it's like they've been in some brainwashing cult. Can they not distinguish the difference between real life and fantasy, Fact and fiction? No. They honestly believe that they drink blood, run around after midnight, can't go near garlic and that biting your girlfriend on the neck is perfectly normal social behaviour.

Now, I'm not saying that people can't enjoy books or film a step higher than usual, because we see Harry Potter fans dressing up for film premiere's and writing themselves fake letters from Hogwarts etc. But this seems to be a different type of fandom, an "all in good fun" type of behaviour. Not an "I'm going to kill you and drink your blood" type of fandom.

And as for the girls that are absolutely CONVINCED that Edward Cullen and themselves are destined to be together forever, seriously- do you have a brain stem? He's a fictional character! He's not real! It's almost exactly the same as the ones that are focused on making Robert Pattinson their boyfriend- he's a celebrity, probably about 8 years older than you are, and lets not forget the tiny detail that you two haven't actually met and probably never will meet.

It's getting to the point of being ridiculous. If you're so obsessed with blood being sucked out of your body, go donate blood to the Red Cross.

Does anyone remember the Sweet Valley books?

My entire youth involved reading them in every spare moment. (Maybe I still, on occasion, pick one up and have a read...)
I remember being in Kindergarten and reading Sweet Valley Kids, to Grades 1-6 reading Sweet Valley Twins and then Grades 7-12 reading Sweet Valley High. Apparently there's Sweet Valley University or something like that. Maybe I should start reading them when I begin my degree next year!

Anyway, there's talk of a Sweet Valley High movie being made. Diablo Cody ('Juno', 'Jennifer's Body') is allegedly writing the screenplay for the movie. I guarantee this film will probably be an absolute load of crap (because the books are). It will be awful much like The Spice Girls Movie- So horrid, cliche and lame that it's really good and will remain one of the best movies you've ever seen. Sooo, I'm pretty much really excited for the movie.

Off but still on topic, everyone has Twitter these days. Everyone from Ellen DeGeneres, to Kevin Rudd, to book publishing company 'Penguin' all follow, have followers and send out tweets. I thought the line would be drawn at companies having Twitter accounts to promote products but nope. Characters from Sweet Valley High such as Elizabeth & Jessica Wakefield, Todd Wilkins, Bruce Patman, Lila Fowler and even one of the teachers from the school is on there! Whoever made these accounts clearly have far too much time on their hands. To be fair though, the tweets are sort of entertaining in a really lame way...

I went and saw singer/songwriter Kate Miller Heidke perform last night. I was blown away by her concert; she has the most amazing voice and some really beautiful songs, visit this link for one of her more spectacular pieces- it's really sad but nice at the same time.

Sooo, I know this happened in June and it's old news now, but seriously, the Perez Hilton vs Will.i.am debacle will never lose it's hilarity. If you aren't aware of what happened, basically Perez Hilton allegedly got a bit of a whack in the eye from Will.i.am or the manager of The Black Eyed Peas because Perez called Fergie 'fugly' or something really mature like that.

Anyway, so, here's Perez' response to the whole issue. Watch it all the way through, the whole issue is such a non-event and Perez does a fantastic job of dramatising it. He unnecessarily emphasises words, it's so funny.

Pay particular attention to the line straight after he shrieks "Will.i.am followed us to the hotel!!!!"

In my opinion, Perez Hilton's just a bit of a jerk and he probably deserved what he got.

Last Saturday, 15 year old Emily Pridham shaved all of her hair off to raise money for cancer research charities as her father is currently suffering from Leukaemia.

Yesterday, she was suspended from her school, Mt Alvernia College, and was told that her suspension would not end until all of her hair grows back.

Emily's mother spoke to ABC radio; "I understand that school rules have to be abided by. However, I've gone through the school rules and the uniform policy and nowhere does it say that a girl cannot shave her head," Ms Pridham said.

The school says that her suspension was not just about the head shaving, but won't admit to what the other issues are.

Emily's mother said that the only other run-ins Emily has had with the school board was nail polish wearing and that she swore in the presence of a teacher.

Okay, so ultimately, I can see that the school is fairly strict on student presentation and uniform. This is fine as hundreds of other schools probably have the exact same rules. Although, there should be some exceptions to these rules. Raising money for cancer research is one.

School's have uniforms and make a big deal about it because if all the students are dressed immaculately and have perfect hair, nails etc, then the school's image/profile is raised. The way I see it is that, if anything, one girl with a shaved head is actually improving the school's image because it shows what amazing and caring young people are out there these days. It sort of gives the youth of today a good name.

I'd also like to add, the school has allegedly said that Emily cannot return until her hair has grown back. Do they realise how long that will take?! Even if she grows it into a short bob cut, it will still take about 3 months.

I really don't think a suspension was warranted over a shaved head that was shaved to do good for society. But, then again, there's always more to the story than what the media report, or even than what the media have been told so perhaps there are other reasons for her suspension. Only time will tell.
